Advanced laboratory course

All first year OxICFM students take part in an advanced lab course which is a key component of our integrated training package. This course takes place in Oxford’s state-of-the-art new chemistry teaching laboratory. This integrated module will deliver practical experience of techniques critical to each of the centre’s three streams (molecular, nano-scale, and extended materials) together with hands-on experience of scale-up.

The course consists of three week-long components (one per stream), together with a one-week extended scale-up investigation at Siemens’ Harwell site. For logistical purposes, the cohort is split into three groups of four for their studies at Harwell, each of which is allocated a week in July-September. Harwell is connected to Oxford by a University shuttle bus.
